For that we receive the benefit of low cost items--printers, scanners, monitors, etc. all produced overseas--at unrealistically low labor rates. The service for these items however usually occurs on USA soil, with USA labor rates, and USA storage rates to warehouse the spare parts, which provides jobs and a tax base. You then have a very simple economic decision as to repair or replace. The manufacturing/servicing companies are also faced with very similar economic decisions, in many cases when you send a broken unit in for repair, they simply charge a flat rate and throw the broken unit in the trash and send you a replacement unit. Turn around on these replacements is usually fairly rapid, in many cases, overnight if you pick up the shipping. ================================================================= Philip L.
