Tips on printing with a Macintosh/Apple iBook/Powerbook/iMac/eMac/etc.

I was setting up a Stylewriter II on an oldish machine running Mac OS 9.

Some web site said you could just use the "Imagewriter" printer type
with this and it would be OK.  However, that driver is rather primitive.
As of 2004-12-12, Apple still has a better driver online:

But still the printer mysteriously would not work.  It turned out that
I had loaded the Palm Desktop on this machine, and the HotSync module
was locking the printer's serial port.  I started the Palm Desktop, from
the "HotSync" menu I used the "setup/config" menu to disable Hotsync.
(And I unchecked the box for enabling Hotsync at the next reboot.)
Al last the Mac OS driver was able to talk to the printer.
